History of Bingo?

I wonder if anyone has a historical account of how Bingo came about? The history of dominoes seems to go way back hundreds of years I wonder if Bingo has the same kind of history?

Are there any stratergies to be aware of when playing bingo? Can you make the odds better in any other way than playing as many cards as possible?
Some people might say that the time of day or night plays a big part in their strategy. What do you think?

Researchers can trace back Bingo to the 16th century, to the period of the reunification of Italy. This was the beginning of the Italian Lo Giuco del Lotto d'Italia, the national state lottery. Up until now, the Italian state lottery filled up the country's treasury. The national lottery looked a lot like the way we know the game Bingo today and it was hugely popular all over Italy. In no time, this popularity crossed the Italian borders and all over Europe people started to organize lotto's.

Interesting fact is that Bingo has never been seen as a 'sinful activity'
like many other betting games. Somehow Bingo managed to keep a
clean and light image.

Bingo does not have a bad image because most people think that it cannot be manipulated.The average age of the players is also much higher and it considered to be more of an elderly pasttime!!
But I enjoy it thoroughly and do rather badly at it.

Interesting write up. I can see how it is not seen as so sinful and also how it would be difficult to cheat at it. The other thing is that each and every time a player wins rather than the dealer or betting office.

I tend to wonder that without the online side of bingo taking off whether the game of bingo could have survived to have a longer history?

I don't think it would be able to survive without the online side being available. Sure some people will always favouir going to the bingo hall but these days a lot of people find modern life stopping those kinds of visiting.
The internet allows people to stay intouch through video whilst also playing their favourite games.
Nothing beats the comfort of your own home.

I didn't realise the history of Bingo was based in Italy? It sounds really strange for some reason, I just assume that most games were thought up and started in places like China and we have Bingo to thank for Lotto in all it's forms around the world. They really should have patented the game
